Abstract (EN)

Investigation of Renal Amyloidosis in Some Inflammatory Diseases ofCattleThe aim of this thesis was to identify possible amyloid deposits in someinflammatory diseases such as traumatic reticuloperitonitis (TRP), mastitis, metritisand pododermatitis along with renal biopsy, SAA concentrations, and bloodmetabolic profile in cattle. Renal biopsies were dyed by Congo red (CR) stain, andSAA levels were determined as inflammatory marker in 82 cross-breed cow withTRP (n=30), mastitis (n=18), metritis (n=11), and pododermatitis (n=23). Tenclinically healthy cattle served as control group. In the renal biopsies of 5 (6%)animals from TRP (n=2), mastitis (n=2) and pododermatitis (n=1) demonstratedamyloid deposits, which were confirmed by CR staining on tissues obtained fromkidney, and all of them showed clinical symptoms atributable to amiloidosis. Thehistopathologic results derived from the present study indicated that all thecongophilic amyloid deposits were observed in glomerulus. In cattle with amyloid, the most important finding was a nephrotic-like syndrome, in that there werehypoproteinemia and proteinuria. Other consistent clinicopathologic abnormalitieswere high serum urea and creatinine concentrations, and low urine specific gravity.Mean SAA concentration (66.2±3.1μg/ml) in cattle with amyloidosis wassignificantly higher than mean SAA concentration in control (p<0.01), although nostatistically significant differences were detected when compared the mean SAAconcentration of the other groups of cattle. The results of the study concluded thatincreases in SAA levels were a necessary condition for the deposition of amyloid andmonitoring of the SAA concentration in diseases that have risk for amyloidosis maybe helpful in their early diagnosis.Key Words: Cattle, kidney, amyloidosisPDF created with pdfFactory trial version www.pdffactory.com
