Key Words: Alumina, SiC, Sintering, Ceramic Composites The aim of this study is to search the effect of SiC addition on physical and mechanical properties, of alumina based ceramic composites. During experiments powdered, Alcoa Alumina in 0,4 ?m (commercial pure) and SiC in 20 ?m are used. Powdered SiC is added to alumina at 5-10-15 wt. % ratios. To have a homogeneous mixture, powder compositions are wet milled and then dried in an incubator. After drying, homegeneous compositions are grounded under 500 ?m and by 5 % moisturizing, granulation occured. Granules are dry pressed under 100 MPa and incubated. Dried bodies are sintered at 1500?1550?1600?1650 oC. Composite bodies are tested against firing shrinkage, water absorption, porosity, relative density, three point bending strength, hardness, fracture toughness, phase (XRD) and microstructural analysis (SEM). According to XRD results, it has seen that the addition of SiC to the alumina forms mullit phase which occures as a result by the reaction of oxygen and SiC. And also seen that SiC addition was not achieved mechanical properties of the ceramic bodies properly. By the help of physical and mechanical experiment results, the properties of ceramic composites are given and discussed.
