Perception of social support, coping methods and life satisfaction of women victims of violence

Violence has become an increasingly widespread social problem today. In 2012, the Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence against Women entered into force in order to raise awareness and prevent domestic violence and violence against women in our country. As required by the Law, "Violence Prevention and Monitoring Centers" (ŞÖNİM) were established to carry out prevention and monitoring activities, which are seen as the first reception unit of violence within the scope of combating violence. In this study, the effect of perceived social support mechanisms and methods of coping with violence on the life satisfaction of women who stated that they were exposed to violence and women victims of violence who received services from ŞÖNİM (N=106) were examined. Personal Information Form, Coping with Stress Scale, Multidimensional Perceived Social Support Scale and Satisfaction with Life Scale were used to collect the data. In the findings of the study, in parallel with the hypotheses, it was found that the development of coping mechanisms for the violence experienced by women victims of violence increased the life satisfaction of women, and when the effect of social support on the development of coping strategies for violence and life satisfaction was examined, it was understood that there was a positive relationship between life satisfaction and social support. The results of the study were discussed in the light of the literature, suggestions for future studies were given and the limitations of the study were explained.
