The reflection of violence on the contemporary works of art after 1980

Violence is a phenomenon that endures since the ever first appearance of mankind until today. Violence showed up in each society and in every era before with individual modalities and behavioural forms and will keep on doing so.During the 80?s technological innovations expanded. Mass ? communication ? devices were developed which modified the social system and altered the institutions? structures and functions deeply by acting together with additional factors like urbanization, industrialization, internal and external immigration as well as rapid increase of population. These changes finally lead to positive results in every area. Nevertheless they caused appearance of several social problems, too. The most important one is definitely the phenomenon of violence.The 20th century was a period of violence because of two world wars and regional and ethnical conflicts. It is beyond doubt that fine arts couldn?t stay unimpressed by such an intensive violence. A time began where global policies which were commenced after the end of the cold war and neo-liberal movements gathered pace. Artists dealt more than ever before with the subject violence during this period of time. They utilized visualization techniques and produced works which nearly consisted of interdisciplinary approaches. The target of these modern approaches was always the same. The longing for a life without violence? the idea of individuals suffering from depression caused by every kind of power? These issued were covered and questioned frequently.The Contemporary arts of our time are still doing their duty by questioning the threat caused by violence against human life and by keeping this matter in the agenda. Those ruling powers which possess the force of technology and of mass ? communication ? devices, demoted violence to a matter of consumption and to a matter of pleasure in order to obtain their aims. Even the most marginal violence apparitions are presented within esthetical attraction. Thus the masses became insensitive. Notions? contents were depleted. As long as there is violence in our lives, art can?t be considered without discussing it.
