Side, the most important harbor city of ancient Pamphylia region, was mentioned as a metropolis of Pamphylia in Byzantine Bishop?s lists. Because of its important position in Mediterranean trade routes, Side became a rich and glorious city in antiquity. The city, which kept its position until the Middle Byzantine Period, has also many religious buildings. In this study, there are six buildings which were used for religious purposes to be examinated. One of these buildings; the Episcopal Palace, contains various rooms inside. Among the Byzantine churches in Side it can be say that the earliest example was the episcopal palace, dated to 5th. Century A.D. The small harbor church in AA Basilica that lies close to harbor was dated to 10 th. Century and can be taken the latest example of Side churches that has various plans. After the Arab invasion, the Christian population has decreased and there has been only a small community in Side until 14 th. Century AD.. It cannot however to be determined when the city was leaved. In 19 th. Century, when the Muslim immigrants were moved to the city and constitute the modern Selimiye, the city was transformed to small village. Side transformed in a modern city, with the buildings in 1980?s, after the increasing of the tourism activity.
