Assessment of Effects of Smoking Cessation on Lung Function and Quality of Life ın Applicant Cases of the Smoking Cessation Outpatient Clinic Aim: Smoking is a significant health problem as the main cause of many diseases. Smoking negatively affects the many organs especially the respiratory system and affects all these patients quality of life. In this study we aimed to look for the early stages changes in the quality of life and the lung function following the cessation of smoking and to investigate the relationship with each other in the patients that admitted to our smoking cessation outpatient clinic. Material and method: 112 smoking cessation patients that admitted to Turgut Ozal Medical Center Smoking Cessation outpatient clinic were included in this study. Demographic characteristics of the participants, Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence and SF-36 were taken by face-to-face interviews on their first day and first and third months of smoking cessation days from all patients and spirometric measurements were made. Results: There are significant differences on avarage of first appeals and controls at SFT parameters between male and female genders. The patients' FEV₁/FVC level in proportion of 16% and FEF25-75 level in proportion of 32,7% are established as low levels in our assessment. A revealing increment in SFT control parameters is not observered while increment on life quality is established as meaningful. Increment on life quality is established in early period that doesn't include significant change on respiratory function system. Any difference did not investigated on average value of life quality between male and female genders. Conclusion: At an early stage of smoking cessation that there is no significant change in lung function but the quality of life of the patients increases. In previous studies have focused on long-term effects of smoking cessation on quality of life and respiratory function. Therefore more comprehensive studies can be performed to expose changes clearly on respiratory functions together with life quality.
