Abstract (EN)

The aim of this clinical study is to evaluate the effect of subgingival injectable platelet-rich fibrin (I-PRF) application on clinical periodontal parameters as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT) in smokers with chronic periodontitis. Twenty-five systemically healthy, smoker patients with periodontitis stage II/III were included in the study. In this split-mouth trial, subgingival I- PRF was applied to the test group in addition to NSPT, while saline was applied to the control group after NSPT. Subgingival I-PRF/saline application was repeated on the 7th day in both groups. Clinical periodontal parameters were recorded at baseline, 1st and 3rd months after the treatment. When the data obtained from the study were evaluated, the probing pocket depth (PPD) was found to be statistically lower in the test group at the 1st and 3rd months (p<0.05). Gingival index (GI) and bleeding on probing (BOP) percentages were found to be significantly lower in the test group at 3 months (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in the Turesky Modified Quigley-Hein Plaque Index (TQHPI) and clinical attachment loss (CAL) at the 1st and 3rd months (p>0.05) However, compared to the baseline, PPD reduction and clinical attachment gain were significantly higher in the test group than in the control group at the 1st and 3th months (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was observed that subgingival I-PRF application adjunct to NSPT in smokers with chronic periodontitis may improve clinical periodontal outcomes. (p<0.05).
