Abstract (EN)

II EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF LUBRICANT VISCOSITY ON THE WEAR CHARACTERISTSCS OF CYLINDRICAL SPUR GEARS (M.Sc. Thesis) Mustafa Selçuk KESKİN GAZI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNEOLOGY September 2002 ABSTRACT Generating Mechanism of the most frequently observed failure modes in all gears are still not explained clearly. One of these important modes is the effect of lubricant viscosity. On the waer characteristics. Experiments have been conducted on the experimental set up which was builted make fatique tests on the cylindrical spur gears. Project was founded by research projcets formation of Gazi University. In Experiments, lubricants with different viscosities which are used in closed circuit lubrication oils have been tested for their load carrying capacity, Hertzian contact pressure change and for the relation between pressure change and surface damage. In order to investigate the effect of lubricant viscosity; profile correction factor, helix angles, load factor, material and surface roughness parameters fixed constant. In the light of the calculations and experimental results, the effeets of investigated parameters wear damage are presented.
