COMPUTER AIDED OPTIMISATION OF THE GRINDING PARAMETERS IN CYLINDRICAL GRINDING IN ORDER TO GET REQUIRED SURFACE ROUGHNESS (Ph.D. Thesis) Abdulkadir GÜLLÜ GAZİ UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY SEPTEMBER - 1995 ABSTRACT The main purpose of grinding is to produce the workpiece in required precision and surface finish. Since the grinding is a finishing process and it provides a better passage for the following processes a better combination of parameters in grinding must be achieved. In this study, by vising eight different independent variables in real grinding environment, between the two important criteria (average roughness, Ra, and the maximum Roughness, Rt), of surface finish, mathematical models and graphical relations have been established. Besides these, by using these mathematical models and by taking the standardised, known and experienced grinding data as rule basis, a computer program which computes the optimum values of independent parameters has been written in Turbo Pascal language. By choosing some parameters in advance, the relationship between number of passes (workpiece strokes) and Ra and Rt values of surfaces have been established. Finally, the results of this study has been considered satisfactory.
