Abstract (EN)

The procedure of grinding is generally used in the last step of metallic materials machining to have necessary surface quality and measurement. Generally, flat surfaced grinding wheels are used in the process of grinding. However, due to the fact that there is a great deal of contact length (as much as grinding wheel width) between grinding wheel and workpiece, the cooling is not able to be carried out as desired, the heat increases and disposal of the chips are not easy. Depending on these reasons, some undesired and unwanted results such as unqualified surface and roundness error come out. Grinding wheel with various profiles were used in order to increase surface quality and decrease roundness error; that is, grinding wheel was modified and various methods were developed. In this study, AISI 1050, AISI 4140 and AISI 7131 steel materials were subjected to cylindrical grinding process by using helical grooved wheels with 15º, 30º and 45º around them and obtained results such as ?average surface roughness? and ?roundness errors? were compared with flat surfaced grinding wheels. At the end of the experiments, it was seen that better surface quality and lower roundness error were acquired with the use of helical grooved grinding wheel.
