The relationship between tanatophobia and religiositybefore surgery in patients with digestive system cancer diagnosis

In this study, it was aimed to conduct an inquiry in order to determine the changes that occurred as a result of the feelings and thoughts of volunteer patients, who are hospitalized in the General Surgery Department of Health Education University Istanbul Training and Research Hospital. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between/of tanatophobia (fear of death) and religiosity in patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal cancer. The sample of the study consists of 60 volunteer patients who have gastrointestinal cancer and admitted to the General Surgery Department of the Health Education University Istanbul Training and Research Hospital. Data collection tools of the research; Zung Depression Scale, Arrow-Religious Attitude Scale, Thorson-Powell Death Anxiety Scale, State and Trait Anxiety Scale. In the theoretical part of our research respectively digestive system and digestive cancers, death and fear of death, anxiety and death anxiety, religion-religiosity and religiosity dimensions were explained. In the empirical part of the study, the data of the inquiry were evaluated and some interpretations were made. According to the results of the research; fear of death in patients with digestive tract cancer with traumatic traits has a positive effect on religious attitude. Cognitive, emotion, behavior and relationship dimensions of religious attitude have a negative effect with depression.
