Abstract (EN)
Epic films, that take their topics from the Ancient Age, have been produced since the first period of Cinema. They were being produced in Italy principally and, usually depicted the Roman Period. Creating an atmosphere, that is, drawing the audience into an identifying mood on the basis of costumes, art design and accessories, was the main element in such works. Epics, which were a reflection of archaeological discoveries on the SilverScreen, constitute an important genre in cinema and differ from other genres in terms of iconography and content. The examples of the genre which lived its golden age in the 1950s were among the most important ones. "Gladiator Films" among them would be referred as the excellent examples of the genre. Since the 1970s, rare examples of the Genre have been produced due to the ignorance of the new generation who were interested in films that deal with the contemporary world. However, with "Gladiator", Epic Films came back to the agenda and gave their perfect examples in the last twenty years.
