Overwiew of architectural visual composition design from cinematographic design language

In this thesis, the basic question is whether the concept of experience, which is thought to be not given sufficient importance to the design during architectural design process, can be developed through the design techniques of cinema discipline, which has the most realistic effect on a visual experience. When we look at the historical development of cinema; while it only included the representation of other branches of art in the beginning, it can be seen that it started to influence the design of these branches over time. The act of designing the space in which cinema presents itself as one of the subjects of the film; has created a space design with effects of cinema art. At this point, the question of whether the benefit of cinematographic design language can be provided for the architectural discipline whose main subject is space design has arisen and this question formed the track of the thesis study. For this reason, the relationship between cinema and architecture has been examined in detail and it has been concluded that there are several similarities between the two disciplines. It was found that both disciplines are self-reproducing disciplines, the way we perceive their products in similarly, and they are similar in terms of relationships with concepts such as space, time, experience (movement). Considering that cinema is a visual art and keeping the concept of movement in the center of this visual art in the design, it can constitute a way of rethinking for the architectural discipline; it is predicted that narrative elements of cinematographic composition will trigger an experience-oriented way of thinking in architectural design. For this reason, narrative elements of cinematographic composition; lines, forms, masses and movements are examined; and the possible effects of the principles taken into consideration in the design of these elements on the design of the architectural visual composition are discussed.
