Abstract (EN)

It was aimed to detect joint diseases in the skeletons obtained during the 2018-2019 excavations in Sinop Balatlar Church, to determine joint diseases between genders, to determine whether joint diseases show any differences between male and female individuals, and to detect in which age group joint diseases are more intense. A total of 263 individual skeletons were examined, including a total of 149 individuals from 23 graves and bones found on the surface in 2019, and a total of 114 individual skeletons from 18 graves and bones scattered scattered from the surface in 2018. Among proliferative joint diseases, osteoarthritis in 124 individuals, Schmorl's nodule in 38 individuals, spinal osteophytes in 57 individuals, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction in 11 individuals were observed in the skeletons of Sinop Balatlar Church. When erosive joint diseases were evaluated, it was determined that 27 individuals had rheumatoid arthritis, 2 individuals had ankylosing spondylitis, and 4 individuals had DISH. . Osteoarthritis was observed in a total of 178 individuals. 61 of 80 male individuals (76.3%) had OA. OA was observed in 34 of 52 female individuals (65.4%). Schmorl's nodule was detected in 23 men and 8 women. While the spinal osteophyte rate is 42.5% in men, this rate is 30.8% in women. TMJ is 6.3% in men and 9.6% in women. When the skeletons of Sinop Balatlar Church with Rheumatoid Arthritis were evaluated according to gender, it was determined that the most affected individuals were women (19.2%). For men, this rate is 18.8%. In the examination of the skeletons of Sinop Balatlar Church, ankylosing spondylitis was detected in 2 male individuals. Among the skeletons unearthed from Sinop Balatlar Church, DISH was observed in 3.8% of males and 1.9% of females.
