Abstract (EN)
This study was conducted to assess the sediment quality of Karasu Stream, located in Sinop province, and to identify potential pollution sources. Sediment samples collected from three different stations during the period of April-September 2023 were analyzed for heavy metals. The results of the analysis show that the water quality of the stream is affected by human activities, especially pollution sources originating from residential areas. The highest concentrations of heavy metals, organic pollutants, and nutrients were measured at Station 2, which is close to residential areas. The concentrations of pollutants are lower at Station 1, which is close to the source of the stream. This is because Station 1 is relatively far from human activities and natural conditions are more dominant. The results of the study emphasize the need to take necessary measures to protect and improve the water quality of Karasu Stream.
