Breeding performance and larval growth characteristics of siraz fish (Capoeta umbla Heckel, 1843) under culture conditions

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, reproductive performance by hormonal induction, embryonic development of eggs, larval growth characteristics by applying different feeding protocols and growth characteristics of juvenile fish at different stocking densities were studied under controlled conditions for Tigris scraper (Capoeta umbla). Two different induction agents (ovopel and ovaprim) were applied at different doses to ensure ovulation in Tigris scraper broodstocks that have reached reproductive maturity. The induction agents ovopel and ovaprim hormones were injected intramuscularly into anesthetized fish. 0.5 pellet, 1 pellet and 1.5 pellet per 1 kg of fish doses in the ovopel trials, 0.25 ml, 0.50 ml and 0.75 ml per 1 kg fish doses in the ovaprim trials, and saline solution in the control group were injected. After the latent period, which lasted for about 3 days, the highest ovulated females was determined in the ovopel groups. It was observed that ovulation rate increased as the dose increased in ovopel. The maximum ovulation rate was achieved in the group that received 1.5 pellets of ovopel/kg of fish. Fertilization, eyed and hatching rates were calculated by fertilizing the eggs and sperm obtained by stripping method. The groups with the highest fertilization, eyed and hatching rates were ovaprim 0.5 (78.42% - 86.67% - 82.6%) and ovopel 1 (78.11% - 86.33% - 81.33%) while the lowest rates were found in ovaprim 0.75 (61.15% - 80.4% - 77%) and ovopel 0.5 (61.71% - 79.13% - 76.88%) groups. As a result, it has been observed that ovaprim and ovopel hormones can be used effectively to stimulate reproduction in Tigris scraper. Embryonic development took approximately 144 - 146 hours at 18-19ºC for C. umbla species. The newly hatched larvae are a light yellowish color. It has been observed that the larvae, which have partially finished their yolk-sac, also take dry feed together with Artemia nauplii. The yolk-sac is finished in the 9th day. In the study, in which the growth and survival characteristics of the Tigris scraper larvae in different feeding protocols were examined for 21 days, it was observed that the highest total length was 24.04 mm in the L1 group, and the lowest total length was in the L2 group with 17.89 mm. It was determined that the highest specific growth rate was in the L1 group with 3.29%, the lowest specific growth rate was in the L2 group with 1.91%. The highest mortality was recorded in the L5 group with 3.64% and the lowest mortality was recorded in the L4 group with 1.81%. Feeding protocols that included live food gave better results. In the experiment in which the growth and survival characteristics of juvenile Tigris scraper were investigated at different stocking densities for 98 days, it was recorded that the maximum total length was 67.07 mm in the S1 group, and the minimum total length was in the S5 group with 44.91 mm. Among the groups, the highest live weight was found in S1 group with 2.819 g, the lowest live weight was determined in S5 group with 0.859 g. The highest specific growth rate was in the S1 group with 3,419%, the lowest specific growth rate was in the S5 group with 2,127%. It was noted that the highest survival rate in the groups was 98.75% in the S2 group, and the lowest survival rates were 97.5% , 97.5% , 97.5% in the S1, S4 and S5 groups, respectively. High stocking densities were found to be disadvantageous for growth of C. umbla fry. According to the results, the production of Tigris scraper is possible under controlled conditions by applying aquaculture techniques.
