Abstract (EN)

Since there are no independent sources about Shirvanshahs, information about the name and origin of Shirvanshahs is quite limited. Although some studies conducted in Azerbaijan and Iran have claimed that the Shirvanshahs are of Sasanian origin based on limited information about the first Shirvanshah dynasty, there is no scientific validity to this. Because it is clear that they are in the Turkish cultural circle from their mention in ancient sources to the processes of statehood. The fact that they have been able to maintain their existence for thirteen centuries, from the first Shirvanshahs, whose political existence we can trace from the VI century, to the Shirvan Khanate in the XIX century, is of great importance in the history of the Caucasus. During this time, they had relations with the Huns, Suvars, Alans, Khazars, Sasanians, Arabs, Khwarezmshahs, Seljuks, Mongols, Golden Horde, Timurids, Akkoyunlu, Karakoyunlu, Safavids, Russians, Ottomans and Georgians. However, in this study, Shirvanshah-Georgian relations have been discussed from a political point of view during the historical process. The evolution of the relations that started for mutual assistance and benefit into diplomatic marriages and political struggles over time has been examined, and its place and importance in the history of the region has been revealed in this respect. Keywords: Turkish, Caucasia, Shirvan, Shirvanshah, Georgian.
