Özet (EN)

The main purpose of this work is to show how estrangement occurs in grotesque and communucative ways in the absurd theatre plays of Samuel Beckett and Eugène Ionesco. Based on Beckett's Endgame and Ionesco's Amédée, or How to Get Rid of It, Thıs thesis shows how estrangement developed ın the modern perıod and what ıt led to. As The Enlightenment period suppressed humanity, criticism of rational thought was at the forefront in Absurd Theatre plays. Before coming to the grotesque and communicative process of alienation in plays Endgame and Amédée, or How to Get Rid of It, the first part looks at the use of the word absurd in literature and the ways in which Traditional Theatre and Absurd Theatre emerged. Since the period in which Absurd Theatre emerged coincided with the destruction of modernity, this work examines what place humanity has come to. The absurdity of the period was interpreted from mythology by Sisyphus's fruitless and desperate efforts. It was given how the concept of estrangement was grotesque and processed in terms of communication. In the second part, Beckett's Endgame and Ionesco's Amédée, or How to Get Rid of It are dealt with by examples of how alienation occurs through communication. In Writers' plays, language ceased being a means of communication and logic rules, showing that it did not comply with the expression and communication between the characters. Finally, the plays Endgame and Amédée, or How to Get Rid of It were illustrated with examples from the plays of how alienation has developed in grotesque terms. Writers made more enlightenment criticism, replacing smoothness and beauty with ugliness and chaos at the center of their plays. Changing, and transforming bodies, and crippled bodies could not find a place for them in the modern period, and they became alienated from those around them. Keywords: Absurd Theatre, Estrangement, Communication, Grotesque, Samuel Beckett, Eugène Ionesco
