Abstract (EN)
Keywords: Soil-structure interaction, finite element method, active and passive isolation, seismic wave barrier, wave propagation Strong ground motions which are produced by vibration sources may cause high amplitude oscillations on the structures resulting damage on the buildings and discomfort the people?s daily life. In this study, a wave barrier is proposed between the vibration source and the building. Detailed parametric studies carried out to investigate isolation techniques that could be used either to prevent the propagation of vibrations from a source (active isolation) or to prevent incoming waves in the soil to reach a structure or an area that should be protected (passive isolation). Discretization of soil region is determined by using finite element method. Numerical investigations are performed through mathematical model extensively. Obtained results are shown for different wave barrier models by comparatively.
