Analysis of Sivas fairy tales in terms of the root values in the Turkish course curriculum

In this research, Sivas fairy tales were examined in terms of the root values of justice, friendship, honesty, self-control, patience, respect, love, responsibility, patriotism and benevolence in the Turkish Language Curriculum. The sample of the study consists of the fairy tales in the book Has bahçenin gülleri-Sivas masalları. This research is a qualitative research study and was studied in a basic qualitative research design. The design of this study which was conducted using case study, one of the qualitative research models, is a single-case embedded design. As data collection tools in this research; the book named Has bahçenin gülleri-Sivas masalları by Benek Kaya; theses, articles, papers written on root values, values education and the educational trait of fairy tales and the 2019 Turkish Course Curriculum (Primary and Secondary School between 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades) were used. Throughout the research process, firstly, readings were made on what the ten root values, announced by the Ministry of National Education in 2017 and included in the curriculum, covered and meant. Later, the existence of ten root values in Sivas fairy tales collected from the narrators was determined. In this context, it was seen that all ten root values were included in these tales which were read several times, and noted where, how and how often these values were used. In the process, in which data on root values in Sivas fairy tales were determined, document analysis method was used, and descriptive analysis method was utilized in data analysis. As a result of the analyses, it was concluded that Has bahçenin gülleri-Sivas masalları contains all ten root values, the root value of responsibility is the most frequently used value and the root value of patriotism is the least common value among these root values, and Sivas fairy tales can be used in the values education process in the Turkish lesson.
