Folk medicine applications of Siverek

This thesis consists of an in-depth exploration of the folk medicine treatments, methods considering the value and the attitude of the area towards it. Folk medicine, which has become an important element of folk culture in the county town of Siverek and in villages, has been presented through an in-depth analysis and synthesis. The study which considers folk medicine applications regarding the customs beliefs and folk culture of the area obtain information about the applications of treatments and the process of treatments regarding the culture of Siverek. This thesis includes three chapters; the first chapter presents the detailed information about the area where the study was conducted, the second chapter presents the definition of folk medicine, historical background of folk medicine, its developments over the years, where it stands among the society, area of investigation within the literature, and the terminology about it, the third chapter presents the applications and treatments of folk medicine that applied in the area. This study was carried out by interview technique which is one of the compilation methods. In the interviews, the audio recorder, the camera and the questions to be directed to the source person are prepared in advance. The gathered data collected through structured interviews with the people who lived in the center and villages of Siverek. The interviews also recorded by the researcher and then transcribed. The gathered data also supported through the oral culture treatments of folk medicine culture among the people of the area. The findings revealed that the continuity of Anatolian Folk Culture has become prominent.
