Abstract (EN)

At this research, civil inattention (civil negligence) and change of urban identity are questioned in the context of public space and participatory democracy. At this research, methods of literal reading, depth interview, natural observation are used. Depth interviews are done on the subtitles of security search, greeting, use of time and place in everyday life. Urban identity of Izmir is read through the instrument of photos. Connection is made among urban change and civil inattention. The following conclusions are made: Face to face interaction is decreased at urban life. Public and private spaces are intertwined. Public space is displaced. It is found out that civil inattention practice in the city effects individuals and society in variety of ways. People act individually during general aspects of daily life whereas they show a group participation in the city during election period.
