The state and civil society relations in turkey within the discussions of civil society and public sphere

The notions of public sphere and civil society are complementary and interwoven concepts, the first one refers the restrictions pertaining with the individual liberty for the sake of social order and the latter one refers the individual freedoms, preference and difference form the society. Hence, the democracy is possible just in the condition when the public sphere can not prevail the civil society. In the history of Turkish democracy, it can be seen that democracy has many obstacles and handicaps in Turkey such as social organization, freedom of speech, minority rights, and supremacy of law. In order to remove the aforementioned obstacles the civil society institutions tries to develop a democracy culture, teach the democratic understanding and transform the society with global multicultural and pluralistic mentality with the incentive/momentum of the European Union integration process.The transformation of civil society-state relations in Turkey led to emerge the discussion of civil society, democracy and public sphere within the framework of the theory and idea of Jurgen Habermas and Hannah Ardent. Therefore, this study aims to provide contribution for these discussions within the change and transformation in socio-political sphere of Turkey during the globalization and Turkey?s integration process with TurkeyKeywords: Democratic Pluralizm, Public Sphere, Civil Society, Political Socialization, Governance.
