Use of new media in political communication: E-meeting example in 24 june 2018 general elections

The development of technology affects, changes and transforms almost everything. Political communication can be defined as the concept of communication that has existed since the existence of humanity and the point of intersection between this concept and the politics almost equal to that of humanity and this concept is affected by the developments too. Although the goal of political communication, which is used in order to take over the power of governance by gaining the approval of the managed people, does not change, its methods are subject to major changes. New media and social media, in particular, can be used to reach voters. Politicians, communication experts and academics are searching for ways to use the new media in the most efficient way and conducting various researches. On the other hand, various efforts are underway to adapt traditional methods, which are indispensable in political communication studies, to the new media. The main subject of this study is the e-meetings which can be considered as the adaptation of the traditional application to the new media. In this study, for the first time June 24, 2018 elections in Turkey, implemented by the Felicity Party e-meeting was examined. As a first in our country, all rallies were handled separately and interviews were conducted with party officials. All information obtained was interpreted by descriptive analysis and the place of e-meetings in political communication was tried to be explained.
