A research on sexual function, depression and anxiety levels of schi̇zophrenia and bipolar outpatient?s wifes

Schizophrenia and bipolar disorder are important problems affecting psychological health of individuals, and cause burden for family individuals of patients who do not have any professional care education. It is reported in the literature that burden causes some mental disorders. Although there are many researches on individuals having schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, it have not found enough researches focusing on anxiety, depression and sexual ability of partners of these patients. In this research, sexual functions, anxiety and depression levels of partners of patients having schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and having outpatient treatment were examined. For this aim, 60 partners having schizophrenia or bipolar disorder partners and 60 partners not having schizophrenia or bipolar disorder partners were subjected to Hamilton Depression Scale (HDS), Hamilton Anxiety Evaluation Scale (HAS) and Arizona Sexual Experiences Scale (ASEX). The group consist of the spouses of 30 patients with schizophrenia and 30 patients with bipolar disorder and they are chosen from among a select group according to their genders. The control group is chosen, on the other hand, from among the spouses of healthy individuals, 30 male and 30 female. The average age of the participants is 36. According to results of the study, there was only statistically significant relation between anxiety and depression levels of participants having s schizophrenia disorder. Similarly, there was only statistically significant relation between anxiety and depression levels of participants having s schizophrenia disorder. It was also found that anxiety, depression and sexual dysfunction levels of respondents having schizophrenia or bipolar disordered partner were higher than respondents do not having schizophrenia or bipolar disordered partner (p<0,05).
