Abstract (EN)

The Effect of Insight and Drug Attitudes on Psychological Well-Being in Patients with Schizophrenia. INTRODUCTION AND AIM: This research was carried out in a descriptive and relation-seeking manner in order to determine the effect of insight and drug attitude of schizophrenic patients on psychological well-being. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The population of the study was composed of patients with schizophrenia who were registered to Sakarya Community Mental Health Center. Data were collected from 126 individuals in accordance with the principle of valuntariness after the approvel of the sample ethics committee. 'Sociodemographic Form', 'Beck Cognitive Insight Scale', 'Drug Attitude-10 Scale' and 'Psychological Well-Being Scale' were used for the patients included in the study. Frequency, descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, one-way analysis of variance, ONE WAY ANOVA and pearson correlation were used in data analysis. FINDINGS: 57% of the patient individuals are between the ages of 42-65, 73,8% were male, 84,1% were single, 60,3% were primary scholl graduates, 19,8% were working, 50,8% were the income of the people is medium level, 57,9% of them live with their parents and 51,6% of them live in the district center. The Cronbach's alphas of the scales used in the study were 0,953 for the Drug Attitude-10 Scale, 0,957 for the Psychological Well-Being Score and subdimensions of the Bech Cognitive Insight Scale for self-expression and self-confidence were reliably obtained between 0,763 and 0,762 respectively. The mean score of Drug Attitude-10 Scale was founded to be 6,39±3,99, Beck Cognitive Insight Scale 2,67±7,75 and Psychological Well-Being Score 38,47±11,98 from the scales. Insight and positive drug attitude of the individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia affect psychological well-being in a statistically significant way (p<0,05). CONCLUSION: It was observed that insight and positive drug attitude in individuals with schizophrenia had a positive affect on psychological well-being.
