Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a recovery based psychoeducation program on personal recovery among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Method: The pretest-posttest randomized controlled experimental design study was conducted between January and July 2024. The sample consisted of 59 participants registered at a Community Mental Health Center who met the inclusion criteria, with 29 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. The intervention group participated in the "Recovery Based Psychoeducation Program," which included seven sessions held once a week, each lasting approximately 60 minutes. The "Subjective Recovery Assessment Scale (SRAS)," "Psychological Resilience Assessment Scale (PRAS)," and "Schizophrenia Hope Scale (SHS)" were administered to both the intervention and control groups at three time points: pre-intervention, post-intervention, and three-month follow-up. Both groups continued to receive routine service care from the Community Mental Health Center. Data analysis included descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, minimum-maximum, percentage), comparative statistical methods (Chi-square Test, Mann-Whitney U Test, and Friedman Test) and ITT analysis for missing data. Results: At baseline, there were no statistically significant differences between the intervention and control groups in terms of sociodemographic characteristics or pretest scores on SRAS, PRAS, and SHS (p>0.05), indicating similarity between the groups. When comparing the total scores of the posttest and three-month follow-up assessments, the intervention group demonstrated a significant increase in SRAS scores (Z=-3.47, p=0.001; Z=-3.58, p<0.001). Additionally, PRAS scores showed significant differences between the groups for both posttest and three-month follow-up assessments (p=0.007; p=0.02). Similarly, SHS scores indicated significant intergroup differences for both posttest and follow-up evaluations (p<0.001, p<0.001). Conclusion: The Recovery-Oriented Psychoeducation Program effectively enhanced subjective recovery, psychological resilience, and hope among individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia. Further studies in diverse regions with larger sample sizes are recommended to strengthen the evidence for its effectiveness. Keywords: Personel recovery, schizophrenia, hope, psychological resilience, CHIME.
