The relationship between psychotic severity depression and psychological flexibility in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia

Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between psychotic symptom severity, depression and psychological flexibility in individuals with schizophrenia. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and relational study was conducted with 111 individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia in Malatya Training and Research Hospital Göztepe Community Mental Health Center between November 2021 and June 2022, together with İnönü University Turgut Özal Medical Center Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. Data were collected using the "Descriptive Information Form", "DSM-5 Psychosis Scale", " The Calgary Depression Scale for Schizophrenia (CDSS)" and " Acceptanceand Action Questionnaire (AAQ-II)", which measures psychological flexibility. Mean, number, percentile distributions were used to evaluate the data, analysis of variance was used to evaluate the difference between groups, t-test for independent groups, Kruskal Wallis-H test and correlation analysis were used. Results: In this study, the mean DSM-5 Psychosis scale total score of individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia was 8.99±6.65, the mean CDSS score was 7.90±6.40, and the mean AAQ-II score was 22.46±12.44. As a result of the research, there was a moderately positive and significant relationship between the DSM-5 psychosis scale and the mean CDSS scores (r= 0.569; p<0.01), and a moderately positive and significant relationship between the mean scores of the AAQ-II and DSM-5 psychosis scales (r= 0.569; p<0.01). =0.477; p<0.01), and a high level of positive significant correlation (r= 0.754; p<0.01) between the mean scores of AAQ-II and CDSS. Conclusion: This study revealed that depressive symptoms in individuals with a diagnosis of schizophrenia were positively related to the severity of psychosis symptoms. In addition, this study determined that psychological flexibility was negatively related to psychosis symptom severity and depression.
