Investigation of 5-HT2A gene polymorphism in patients with schizophrenia

Abstract (EN)
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of thought processes and of emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests itself as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking, and it is accompanied by significant social or occupational dysfunction.Schizophrenia genetics studies have shown that schizophrenia has a heritable component. The frequency of schizophrenia is 1% in general population, while the relatives of schizophrenia patients have a higher risk of schizophrenia and family members of patients at risk of developing schizophrenia increases with the degree of kinship. Indeed, the family and twin studies of schizophrenia have also shown that schizophrenia is highly heritable. Several candidate gene and chromosome region have been determined in the linkage and association studies with cases of schizophrenia.The purpose of this study, investigate the effect of 5HT-2A gene 1438 A/G (rs6311) and 102 T/C (rs6313) SNPs on schizophrenia in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia.In this study, genotype and allele frequencies of the 5-HT2A gene 1438 A / G and 102 T / C polymorphisms were evaluated in 110 patients with schizophrenia and 103 healthy control subjects without a history of schizophrenia. There was no significant differences between control and cases in the terms of allele and genotype frequencies of the 5HT-2A gene,1438 A / G (rs6311) and 102 T / C (rs6313) polymorphism.In our study group with a family history of schizophrenia patients without a family history of schizophrenia patients in the 5-HT2A gene 1438 A / G (rs6311) polymorphism genotype frequency and in terms of frequency of GG genotype and allele frequency, were significantly higher in patients without a family history of schizophrenia, A allele frequency was significantly higher in patients with a family history of schizophrenia.Patients with a family history of schizophrenia patients in our study are not the 5-HT2A gene 102 T / C (rs6313) polymorphism genotype and in terms of frequency of the CC genotype allele frequency, were significantly higher in patients without a family history of schizophrenia, the C allele frequency, were significantly higher in patients without a family history of schizophrenia.As a result, the 5-HT2A gene in schizophrenia 1438 A / G (rs6311) and 102 T / C (rs6313) polymorphism was not identified an association between.Keywords: Schizophrenia, 5-HT2A gene, Polymorphism.
