The effect of working in a jop and membersship for an association on the functional recovery, adaptation to the therapy and coping with the stressful situtations in the patients with schizoprenia

This study was carried out comparatively and definitively in order to identify the functionality, adaptation to the therapy and coping styles with the stress of the schizophrenic patients who work and are the members of any associations. The study was performed in the Association of Ankara Schizophrenia Patients and their relatives, Mavi At Cafe, The Health Research And Training Hospital Of Gazi Univercity and The Health Research And Training Hospital Of Ankara Univercity.The individuals participating in the study divided into four groups: being a member in any associations and working and not working, not being a member in any association and working and not working. And there were totally 60 patients as a sample including 15 individuals in the groups. The research data was collected by The İndividual İnformation Form, The Adaptation Rate Scale For The Medical Therapy, The Functional Recovery Scale İn Schizophrenia Patients And The Scale For Coping With The Stress. The data collection tools were applied in 45-60 minutes by the researchers. By using the frequency and percentage, T-test and ANOVA tests for assessing the data, the statistical analysis and interpretations were conducted.İn the study it has been observed that being a membership for any associations and working an a job in the schizophrenia patients participating in the study affected the areas of social and occupational functionalities, and that being a membership for any associations affected the areas of social health and therapy functionalities and that working in a job also affected the area of the occupational functionality. But it has been seen that the styles of the therapy adaptations and coping with the stress did not affect these areas. It was determined that the factors affecting the functionality area of the individuals in the study were the sex, the initial antipsychotic drug sort in the therapy and the therapy period. And it was also determined that the properities affecting the therapy adaptations were the sex and the therapy period. Finally, ıt has been observed that this did not affect the number of hospitalization and curent use of antipsychotic drug functional areas, the therapy adaptation and the style of coping with the stress.Key words: schizophrenia, functionality, the therapy adaptation, coping with stress, job, association.
