Abstract (EN)
Objective: To evaluate the effect of early rehabilitation on physical parameters, pain and quality of life after scoliosis surgery. Methods: Fifty scoliosis patients (30 rehabilitation group and 20 control groups) were included in the study between 12-18 years of age who underwent posterior instrumentation and fusion surgery at Turgut Özal Medical Center. Physical parameters (flexibility, chest mobility, endurance, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, balance, performance), pain and quality of life were assessed after demographic information of all individuals was obtained after surgery. The rehabilitation group had an exercise program under the supervision of a physiotherapist until the discharge period. For the control group, he was asked to walk 5 minutes 3 times a day. After the discharge, all the evaluations of the individuals were done again. Results: A total of 50 individuals, 28 female and 22 male, with a mean age of 15.16 ± 1.86 years, participated in the research. When the pre-treatment and post-treatment parameters were compared between the groups, it was determined that the parameters of pain, endurance, aerobic capacity, anaerobic capacity, performance, balance quality of life were increased in both groups, but this increase was statistically more in the rehabilitation group. Conclusion: Early rehabilitation after scoliosis surgery was found to be effective in increasing flexibility of individuals, improving chest mobility, improving endurance, performance, aerobic and anaerobic capacity, reducing pain, improving quality of life, and reducing discharge time. We think that our study will provide important contributions to the first study on the understanding and prevalence of early rehabilitation after scoliosis surgery. Key words: Scoliosis, surgery, rehabilitation, pain, quality of life
