Research of the Çanakkale ceramics found in the Agora of Smyrna and re-producing using modern tecniques

Çanakkale ceramics, which were produced from the end of 17th century to the first half of 20th century, are considered as one of the mostsignificant waretype for traditional folk art. They are suitable for reproduce in terms of production technology apart from form and features of the decorations. However, it is an obligation to production it with accessible raw material due to the fact that the original raw material procurement is not possible now for various reasons. This thesis aims to examinedivers points of Çanakkale ceramics, unearthed from Agora of Izmir, ranging from physical facets to the production processes. It is apparent that the ceramics, which were derived from Agora of Izmir, had been brought to Izmir as trade goods.Some of these ceramics, which were Çanakkale originated, were selling for the public use. It is likely that rest of them were exported to various countries through the ships from Izmir harbour. In this study, Çanakkale ceramics have been classified according to their decoration. Since the original raw material cannot be reachable, a number of experiments have been carried out for slip, colorant and glaze to be used. Reproduction samples have been performed with the best-obtained experiment results. Although the reproductions possess different nature due to the raw materials used for the production, they seems resemble to original Çanakkale ceramics appearance wise
