Abstract (EN)
Smyrna Antique City, which is one of the important settlements of Ionia region, and the meeting point of civilizations, has always been the center of attention due to its strategic and geographical location from the Antique Age to present. The samples of Unguentarium finds captured between 2007 and 2014 years and discovered as a result of the excavations having carried out at two points in Smyrna Agora and Basmane since 2007 are the subject of this study. In terms of reflecting the chronological and typological development of the form, the Smyrna unguentariums belonging to the Hellenistic and Roman periods were briefly mentioned and predominantly Late Roman-Early Byzantium unguentariums captured were meant to be deeply evaluated. Forementioned unguentariums are dated by taking into account of the other pottery forms, objects such as glass, bone, coins and similar examples at the same level found in other cities. As a result of the study, it was identified that unguentariums captured in the ancient city of Smyrna consist of the samples starting from 7th century AD dating back to BC 3rd century.
