Abstract (EN)
This research aims to determine the effect of parental attitudes on exam anxiety level and on coping strategies. Quantitative research methods were used in accordance with the aim of the research, and online questionnaires were applied to the participants. The research sample consists of 257 students who are preparing for theexam and continuingthe 11th and 12th grades in educational institutions in İzmir province. To collect data for the research, The "Personal Information Form" developed by the researcher, The "Parental Attitudes Scale" developed by Kuzgun (1972) and revised by Kuzgun and Eldeklioğlu (2005), The ''Test Anxiety Inventory'' developed by Spielberger (1980) and adapted to Turkish by Öner (1990), '' Assessing coping strategies'' (COPE) developed by Carver, Scheier, and Weintraub (1989) and adapted to Turkish by Ağargün et al. (2005) were used in the research for data collection.Data analysis was done by using the SPSS program.. Statistical meanings of the findings were evaluated according to the 95 percent confidence interval (p<0.05). According to the main findings of the research, positive and weak relationship between parental attitudes and test anxiety, positive and weak relationship between parental attitudes and coping strategies, positive and weak relationship between test anxiety and coping strategies were determined. In the regression analysis result, while it was seen thatthe democratic and protective-willing attitudes of the parents had a significant effect on test anxiety,democratic and authoritarian attitudes of the parents significantly affected the coping strategies. The obtained findings were discussed within the framework of literature.
