Factors affecting the attitude of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights

The objective of this survey is to demonstrate the factors, affecting the attitude of primary school teachers towards human rights. The survey was conducted with 171 senior undergraduate teacher candidates at Gazi Faculty of Education Department of Primary School Teaching. ?Human Rights Attitude Scale? was used as a data collection tool for the survey. As a result of the reliability analysis, internal consistency coefficient was calculated as .712 (Sense of Justice), .865 (Religious Belief), .967 (Sense of State) ve .711 (Political Views) and .885 as a whole. After the finds, which were reached through the statistical analysis of data obtained from ?Human Rights Attitude Scale,? were interpreted, the following results were attained: 1. It was determined that scores of primary school teacher candidates regarding human rights were high. However, there were no significant differences regarding the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights according to gender, graduated high school, educational background of the mother, educational background of the father, town and region variables. 2. It was observed that sense of justice was significant for the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights but it was also observed that the effect of sense of justice on the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights did not vary according to gender, graduated high school, educational background of the mother, educational background of the father, town and region variables. 3. It was observed that religious belief was significant for the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights but it was also observed that the effect of sense of religious belief on the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights did not vary according to graduated high school, educational background of the mother, educational background of the father, town and region variables. Attitudes of primary school teacher candidates according to gender demonstrated significant differences. According to this, total scores of male primary school teacher candidates are higher than those of the females. 4. It was observed that sense of state was significant for the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights but it was also observed that the effect of sense of state on the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights did not vary according to gender, graduated high school, educational background of the mother, educational background of the father, town and region variables. 5. It was observed that political views was significant for the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights but it was also observed that the effect of sense of political views on the attitudes of primary school teacher candidates towards human rights did not vary according to gender, graduated high school, educational background of the mother, educational background of the father, town and region variables. 6. It was determined that there was a medium level relationship between the total points obtained from Human Rights Attitude Scale and sense of justice, there was a medium level relationship between the total points obtained from the Scale and religious belief factor and a strong relationship between the total points obtained from the Scale and the sense of state and a strong relationship between the total points obtained from the Scale and the political views factor.
