Determining the primary school teacher?s proficiency level on the issue of parent education

This research?s aim is to determine the level of primary scholl teacher?s proficiency level on the issue of parents education. The sample of the study is the primary scholl teacers who works in Çanakkale, Denizli and Aydın during 2007-2008 education period. The datas were gathered with the help of a questionnaire with 26 questions and her two parts: The part I in which the teachers were asked personal questions and the part II in which it was tried to determine the proficiency level about parent education. During the analysis of the datas according to gender, education before service and education inservice with T test and the understanding diffence were analyzied according to the cities in which they are working, education , seniority , parenthood with the varience analysis method.Most of the teachers who attended this research haven?t taken enough inservice education about parent education, the level of participating to conferences on the issue of parents education is low, the participating rate of care education activities is insufficent, they sometimes follow the broadcasts about parents education, firsty education, guardian-child education program (OVÇEP) and the works of school-family unities.They often share information with their colleques about parents education but they rarely arrange meetings in order to inform parents on connecting with children , effective studying skills, free time activies, motivation and the exam anxiety.They advocate parents education works always have positive effect on father-mother-child relationship.They think parents education works always contribute positively child?s academic success.They believe that; with these parents education works, the expectations of school and parents on children can be reconciled.They think, it is a long time duration and needs patience to make changes on parent?s behaviours. They also believe that parents education works positively contributes to parents expectation changes, according to child?s interests, skills and maturity level.With parents education works, parents give much more simple, comprehensible and satisfiying answers to children?s questions about sexuality.They believe that the conflictions between parents and children can be reduced especially at the beginning of adolescence.They believe that; by the sake of given education, parents behave more flexible to their children about carrier planning.The findings show that the parents education works are insufficent in Turkey.
