Primary school teachers' pedagogical content knowledge with regard to Turkish National War of indepence

The purpose of this research is to find out primary school teachers? pedagogical content knowledge about Turkish National War of Independence, which is included in primary school social studies. This research is a qualitative sort of case study. The sample involved four primary school teachers who have worked for 2 or 3 years in public schools. The data involved clasrroom observations and individual interviews. The results indicated that teachers had inadequate pedagogical and content knowledge. Also, such components of pedagogical content knowledge as the knowledge of curriculum, teaching strategy, students? way of learning, assesment and evaluation were insufficient. Furthermore, the teachers were seen as not being able to apply their pedagogical content knowledge to their clasrroom practice.
