The examination of primary school teachers' leisure satisfaction attitudes towards teaching and psychological well-being (Manisa province case)

The aim of this study is to examine primary school teachers' leisure satisfaction, attitudes towards teaching and psychological well-being. The study group of the research consists of 298 leisure primary school teachers working in Yunusemre district of Manisa province. "General Information Form", "Leisure Satisfaction Scale (LSS)", "Attitude Scale for Teaching Profession (ASTP)" and "Psychological Well-being Scale (PWBS)" were applied to the volunteer teachers who participated in the study. Statistical analysis was made with SPSS 20 program. The normality of the distribution is tested before analyzing the data. The differences between the groups were examined in terms of gender, marital status, professional year, age and leisure participation. T test, Mann-Whitney U test, Anova and Kruskal-Wallis H test; Scheffe and Tamhane's T2 were used in post-hoc analysis. The relationship between variables was analyzed using Pearson's correlation. Regression analysis was used to reveal the effect and mediation test was applied. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient was found as LSS .94, ASTP .95, PWBS .87. As a result of the analyzes made, in the gender variable LSS educational, relaxation and aesthetic satisfaction sub-dimensions, and PWBS and ASTP; In the marital status variable LSS physical and aesthetic satisfaction sub-dimensions; In the professional year variable, LSS in educational, social, relaxation, aesthetic satisfaction sub-dimensions; in the age variable LSS social, relaxation satisfaction sub-dimensions, and PWBS and ASTP; In the frequency of leisure participation variable, a significant difference was found in all sub-dimensions of LSS, ASTP and PWBS. As a result of the Pearson correlation analysis, a positive significant relationship was determined between primary school teachers' LSS, ASTP, and PWBS, and with the regression analysis, the partial mediating effect of PWBS between LSS and ASTP was revealed. As a result, it has been concluded that leisure satisfaction and psychological well-being have a positive effect on primary school teachers' attitudes towards the profession. It is suggested that the study should guide pre-service teachers in their pre-vocational and professional training of teachers (p<0.05).
