Social skills levels of classroom teachers (The example of Bolu )

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the opinions of primary education teachers about the level of social skill.The population of the research is made up of primary education teachers who work in the province of Bolu in the acedemic year 2010-2011 and the sampling of the research is made up of 137 primary education teachers (84 women and 53 men ) who work in 26 Elemantary Schools in the province of Bolu.The research was made in the model of general scanning.the data was collected via Riggio(1986) who developed `Social Skill Inventory? and by Yüksel(1998) who translated into the Turkish.The inventory includes 90 items and it has 6 sub-dimensions .Each sub-dimension contains 15 items. To analyse the data collected in connection with the aim of the study, some statistical techniques were used such as; frequency , percentage, mean, standart deviation, t test and one way Anova. The result of the research primary school teachers? opinions on social skill has `medium? level.There are some differences between the women and men teachers about social skill level according to their gender. The average of male primary education teachers? level are higher than female teachers in terms of The Affective Dimension in education.However, there aren?t meaningful differences among the teachers according to age variation.There are meaningful differences on social expression with respect to seniority variables between the primary education teachers? social skill level. According to this, the primary school teachers who has seniority of 11-15 years are statistically higher level than the teachers who have seniority of 26 or over 26 years in terms of social expression.Furthermore, there are same meaninful differences between the primary school teachers who have seniority of 16-20 years and the seniority of 26 or over 26 years.It has been concluded that the elemantary school teachers who has seniority 16-20 years are higher level than the teachers who has experiences 26 or over 26 years in regard to social expression.It was seen that there are meaningful differences between the primary education teacher?s social level in regard to the affective control according to the branch variation. It was concluded that the primary education teachers who educate 1st grade students are significantly higher level than the teachers who educate 5th grade students in terms of to the affective control dimension.
