Engine performance of sodium borhydride added alcohol gasoline mixed fuel in using on a gasoline engine and experimental investigation of its effect on exhaust emissions

Abstract (EN)
In this study, it was aimed to create engine test fuels by mixing gasoline with sodiumborhydridedoped alcohols (CH3OH, C2H5OH) in certain proportions and to test these fuels in a gasoline engine. In accordance with this goal, sodium borhydride in solid form was dissolved separately in methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol to obtain sodium borhydride-methyl alcohol and sodium borhydride-ethyl alcohol solutions. To be used in engine experiments, five types of fuel, namely; pure gasoline, methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol with sodiumborhydrideadditives and ethyl alcohol with sodiumborhydrideadditives, were obtained. Engine test fuels were obtained by means of adding each of ethanol solutions to pure alcohols (methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol), sodium borohydride added methanol and sodium borohydride at certain rates (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% by volume) mixing with pure gasoline (E5, M5, ES5, MS5, E10, M10, ES10, MS10, E15, M15, ES15, MS15... named as). First of all, the engine was started with pure gasoline and after reaching the stable regime, performance and emission measurements were made. Then, each of the mixture fuels, created respectively, were tested separately in the experimental engine and performance and emission measurements were obtained. The obtained performance and emission values were interpreted by comparing them with the values of an engine powered by pure gasoline. Taking into account the data obtained from engine tests, when alcohol fuels were added to gasoline, the specific fuel consumption of all alcohol-gasoline mixture fuels increased; however, the exhaust gas temperatures decreased. In addition to this, while there was a decrease in some engine torque values (ES5, ES10, ES15, M20, ES25, ES30) working with NaBH4-doped alcohol gasoline mixed fuels, there was an increase in some of them. Similarly, there have been increases and decreases in the engine power values of mixed fuels and fuels. On the other hand, while the CO and NOx emissions of the engine operated with mixed fuels created by adding pure alcohols and alcohol solutions with NaBH4, additives to the gasoline are reduced compared to the exhaust emissions of the engine operated with pure gasoline, CO2 emissions increased.
