FLORA OF SOF MOUNTAIN (GAZİANTEP) ÖZUSLU, Ergim M.Sc. in Biology Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elman İSKENDER January 2003, 125 pages ABSTRACT This study was carried out between 1999 and 2002 to determine the flora of Sof Mountain. This study is unique in that this is the first floristical study in Gaziantep. Sof Mountain is within the province of Gaziantep and within C6 of the grid system that is in the Irano - Turanien phytogeographical area. A total of 2088 plant specimens were collected in the area. Of the 2088 plant specimens collected, 65 families, 231 genera and 420 taxa were determined. Of the 420 taxa, 3 of them were Pteridophyta and 417 of them Spermatophyta. 36 of taxa were endemic for Turkey. The distribution of taxa according to phytogeographical regions as follows: Irano - Turanian 122 (29 %), Mediterranean 72 (17 %), Euro - Siberian 11 (3 %) and pluriregional 215 (51 %). The families with the most number of taxa in the research area were Fabaceae 47 (11.1%), Lamiaceae 42 (10%), Asteraceae 39 (9.2%), Rosaceae 23 (5.4%), Poaceae 22 (5.2%), and Liliaceae 19 (4.7%). The genera with the most number of species were Vicia (11), Salvia (11), Astragalus (8), and Trifolium (8). Key words: Gaziantep, Sof Mountain, Flora, Systematics, Turkey. ^y -SO-'
