Abstract (EN)

After the Cold War, global and regional security perceptions have changed and the USA has declared its unipolar world order following the collapse of the Soviet Union. US, dominated its global order role with its military and economic power, has not been indifferent to the economic growth in Asia-Pacific after 90s. Closely following the shift of global capital flows from west to east, the USA has declared the Asia-Pacific as "pivot". China's rapid economic development has led to the emergence of a new global power against the United States. Especially after the 11 September Events, China not only has gotten the opportunity to move freely at this region but also has increased its historical claims on the South and East China Seas. In accordance with "one China" policy, one of the main foreign policy targets of Beijing is the demand of ensuring the sovereignty of Taiwan. Taiwan, whose status quo is maintained thanks to the US military forces in the region, is the biggest problem could turn into a hot conflict between the two countries. This study consists of three sections. In the first section, the concept of security will be covered in international relations and then the emerging types of security after the post-Cold War will be analyzed. In the second section, the relations between the today's greatest global power US and the rising rival China will be examined as versatile. In the third section; the problem of Taiwan sovereignty will be analyzed in the "strategic competition" framework between US-PRC.
