Abstract (EN)
The new conditions that emerged after the Second World War affected the structure of the international conjuncture and a bipolar system has emerged. NATO, which was established in this bipolar system depending on the power dynamics of the post-war period, secured the freedom and security of its member countries and worked to create a fair and lasting peace environment during the Cold War period. However, with the end of the Cold War and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the reason for NATO's existence has disappeared and the future existence of the Alliance has been questioned. In the new international system that emerged after the Cold War, it has become inevitable for NATO to initiate a change and transformation movement in the context of changing period conditions and emerging new risk factors. In this study, NATO's transformation movement after the Cold War will be analyzed, the enlargement activities of the Alliance that started with this transformation will be discussed and NATO's relationship with the Balkans, which is the first application example of NATO's new strategies, and the reflections of the Alliance's change on the Balkans will be examined.
