Modelling of suppressing the respirable mine dust by water sprays

Mine dust is very important in mining industry. In underground mining operations, the mine dust problem needs to be solved for health reasons. Furthermore, there are lots of methods for suppressing dust; one of the widely used is spraying the mine dust with water. In this thesis, relative motion of a dust particle and a water droplet is examined with a projected mathematical model. With this model, the trajectory of the droplet and the dust particle can be observed. The underground mine conditions and dust or droplet characteristics such as droplet and dust diameter, dust density and, dust and droplet charges have been modified and examined. In addition, for different conditions, how efficiently the droplets can suppress the dust is observed.
