The impact of Somalia's foreign trade in food and agricultural products on its economy

In this study, the importance of agriculture in Somalia and its effect on foreign trade are discussed. Based on the fact that the necessary studies have not been carried out in the literature on this subject, our study has been carried out. The study is important in this respect, and it is thought that the suggestions brought by the study will give important clues to policymakers in this area. Secondary data were used in the study. In this context, published articles, books and United Nations reports were evaluated and analyzed. Somalia's foreign trade, imports and exports have an impact on economic growth and increase the production of gross domestic product and the quality of life of the people. In the study, SWOT analysis was performed. Somalia is geopolitically important as a location and has a strong potential to export. However, it is revealed in this study that one of the biggest obstacles to the development of foreign trade is the security problem and insufficient materials for agriculture. The study consists of four parts. In the first part, the general definition of Somalia is given, in the second part an overview of the Somali economy is presented, in the third part the state of agriculture is measured and in the fourth part the effect of the foreign trade of Somalia's food and agricultural products on the country's economy is investigated. At the end of the study, in order to overcome some of the problems of Somalia, the results and suggestions for the development of agriculture in Somalia and the future of Somalia's foreign trade are presented.
