The concept of ethics in the understanding of contemporary Islamic thought abstract

Keywerds: Islam, The Quran, Sunna, morals (morality), thinker In our daily life there are many things which are accorded with the common customs, legal regulations whereas these things cannot be approved by the consciencesness therefore they should not be done. Although they contain no guilty and they also do not contradict the customs it is upto individual's capacity to stand against some feelings or attitudes such as seeking a respectful and rich job or eating a lot. The value of ethics lies in its determination by the individuals' consciensness rather than its being determined by law or custom. Thus one should not be afraid of facing with himself. When mankind is aware of their consciesness they always respect ethical rules and behaviours. They always seek truth and reality in their daily life. Mankind, who are curious about new things and able to improve their life standards, question the things surrounding their life and try to find best things which fit to their understanding. We set out search this topic in the light of this acceptance. Here we deal with the ethics in general. We focus on the definition of ethics, its sources, subjects, aims in the light of Qur'an and the prophetic tradition. We compare the ethics of the time of ignorance with Islamic ethics. Especially we try to analyse how Islam makes changes in early Muslim society. The origin of the science of ethics, the history of ethics in the west, some ethics problem in Muslim Theology, and some views of Muslim sects on ethics are dealt with. Finally we try to present modern Muslim's thought about ethics in a more systematic way. VI
