Evaluation of infant feeding attitude and postnatal breastfeeding behaviour and breast feeding self-effiacy in the last trimester pregnants

Products that provide optimal growth and development, are functional, have high bioavailability, are easy to digest, and are suitable for the physiology of the digestive system are important for infant nutrition. While the most suitable food for this is breast milk, the most appropriate form of nutrition is breastfeeding. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months postpartum. This work; The aim of this study is to evaluate the infant feeding attitudes, postpartum breastfeeding behaviors and self-efficacy of pregnant women in the last trimester. 142 pregnant women were included in the study. In the last trimester of pregnancy, questions about the socio-demographic characteristics of the infant feeding attitude scale, after the birth of the 3rd and 6rd month breastfeeding behavior questions and breastfeeding self-efficacy scale were applied to the participants. The mean age of the pregnant women included in the study was 28.1±5.1 years. It was determined that 42.0% of the pregnant women had university or higher education and 81.3% of them were planned pregnancies. It was determined that 48.3% of the pregnant women had their first pregnancy and 50.2% had their first birth. It was determined that 66.9% of the pregnant women gave birth by cesarean section and 51.3% of the babies were male. The mean score of the IOWA infant feeding attitude scale of the pregnant women was 47.3±7.7. 3-month and 6-month breastfeeding self-efficacy scale mean scores of mothers; It was found to be significantly higher in those who received spousal support during breastfeeding (p<0.05). 6th month scores of EÖYÖ during breastfeeding period of mothers; EÖYÖ 3. It was found to be significantly higher than the monthly scores (p<0.05). Studies are needed to increase the level of knowledge and awareness in order for mothers to feel better about breastfeeding and to have higher breastfeeding self-efficacy.
