Abstract (EN)

This master's thesis aims to systematically analyze the position and scholarly interest received by the intellectual heritage of Imām al-Ḥaramayn Abū al-Maʿālī al-Juwaynī (d. 478/1085) within the Turkish Kalām academy over the last century (1923-2025). The study relies on a comprehensive bibliographic survey and document analysis methodology, encompassing academic publications in Kalām literature (theses, articles, books). The main finding of the research is that academic interest in al-Juwaynī has shown a significant quantitative and qualitative increase, particularly after the 2000s. Turkish Kalām literature, by referencing al Juwaynī's works, especially al-Shāmil fī Uṣūl al-Dīn and al-Irshād, has demonstrated a tendency toward a direct return to the foundational texts of Kalām. Thematically, interest has been concentrated on the subjects of Human Actions and the Theory of Kasb and Epistemology and Theory of Knowledge. The focus on the Kasb theory indicates an effort to bring the historical dispute between the Māturīdī and Ashʿarī schools to a contemporary platform, and to produce a Kalāmī response to modern philosophy's critiques of determinism. Furthermore, al Juwaynī's prominent role is highlighted by his modeling of disciplinary integration between Kalām and Uṣūl al-Fiqh (Principles of Jurisprudence). In conclusion, al-Juwaynī is accepted in the Turkish Kalām academy not merely as a classic figure, but as a personality who represents methodological richness and critical thought. In this role, al-Juwaynī has served as a catalyst for the Turkish Kalām tradition's quest to move beyond the post-classical commentary tradition and construct a unique intellectual synthesis. Based on these findings, the thesis offers recommendations for integrating al-Juwaynī's thought into contemporary ethical and philosophy of science debates.
