Abstract (EN)
This research aims to examine the effect of aquired vision loss experience on psychosocial life processes and to determine what kind of changes persons with vision loss are faced in their psychosocial life. This study was designed with a qualitative research design. The universe of the study composed 12 visually impaired people, 7 men and 5 women, who have experienced vision loss between the ages of 18 and 30 and with different demographic characteristics agree to participate voluntarily. 50-60 minutes of in-depth interviews were conducted with the participants and the audio recordings of these interviews transcribed in the Microsoft Word and deciphered by the manual method. The data obtained were encoded with MAXQDA 2020 program and analyzed descriptively. In the descriptive analysis, findings were collected under 2 major themes that are pre-disability and post-disability. While the pre-disability theme is examined in 4 categories: the definition of disability, the meaning of seeing, future goals and difficulties encountered; The post-disability theme was examined in 6 categories: feelings about vision loss, the meaning of seeing, the construction of a new life, daily living skills, social approach, and changes in life with vision loss. According to the results of the research, it has been determined that the participants with visual loss experience different changes in their psychological processes, as well as different changes in their social life processes, which include their daily life skills, social relations and future goals of education, career and establishing a family.
