An alternative tool 'T- diagram' during inquiry-based learning process: A sample study on the factors affecting enzymes and enzyme study.

The aims of this study are the implementation of the approach inquiry-based learning, which is based on constructive learning theory, by means of T diagram; to discover the effect of this implementation process to the students? academic achievements. Besides, it was also tried to find out the reviews of the students? who are attended to this study process, by means of ?T Diagram Scale?. For this purpose, semi-experimental design has been used in this study.This research has been conducted with the first grade students studying in faculty of education, department of biology teaching at Gazi University, during 2009 -2010 fall semester.A detailed information has been given to a group, which consist of 36 students, about an alternative method to the subjects of inquiry-based learning tool and a sample study has been conducted with those students on "Factors Affecting Enzymes and Enzyme Study". A proficiency test developed by the researcher was applied to the students as pre-test and post-test and to find out the reviews of the students? and they were also applied T-diagram evaluating scale at the end of this study proces. As a result of these practices, the students were applied dependent samples t-test to determine whether there is a difference between their pre-test and post-test scores. Results obtained according to the 0.05 significance brought forward that there is significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The indications gained from t-diagram evaluating scale put forward that students show positive attitude towards t-diagram and they think that t-diagram makes contribution to their science process skills and learning environment.Key words: Inquiry- based learning, T-diagram, Factors Affecting Enzymes and Enzyme Study
